Today is day 8 of Dacogen. We arrived at the hospital at 8 am and had blood tests and clinic with the doctors. Her counts were low for red blood cells and platelets. She got a unit of platelets and a unit of blood and zofran. Tests showed very little gain on platelets and so another unit was hung. Again the test came back with very little gain, so they hung a bag (Costco size), at least two units and finally got her platelets up to 54, enough to do surgery and not risk bleeding out. She has had so many transfusions that her body is developing antibodies that eat up the platelets and it makes it harder to keep her levels up to prevent bruising and bleeding.
The appointment for the PORT was to be12:30 but didn't happen until 4:10. At about 3 pm she was so frustrated she was about ready to scream. I texted all the kids and told them, "pray now", we all did and the test came back with good numbers and we headed to surgery. The procedure took about 40 minutes and now she has been in recovery about 20 minutes. She will be here for another hour and a half. They gave her a coke and now she's good, she says! She wants to have steak and shrimp for dinner, and she deserves it! What a strong woman and great patient she is. I've really learned lessons about being strong from her.
Thank you for always updating this. I am grateful to be able to read them and stay up to date on her progress. It is amazing how the Lord works, usually not on our time schedule. I continue to think and pray for you often. You ARE strong Diane! You've got this! LoVe ya!!!
